Design principles to live by!
Design principles are what us designers live by, we’re going to share some of the key design principles with you below, these are things we use daily at KND and are a part of every project we do.
These principles are simply the foundation of good design, and there are many other considerations to take into account when creating effective designs. However, by understanding and applying these principles, designers can create visually compelling and effective designs that resonate with their target audience.
Balance: Achieving visual equilibrium in design through the use of color, space, and shape.
Contrast: Creating visual interest through the use of contrasting elements such as color, texture, and shape, contrast is an important design principle bringing attention to different areas of the design.
Alignment: Ensuring that all design elements are visually connected and arranged in a cohesive way.
Proximity: Grouping related elements together to create a sense of organization and hierarchy.
Consistency: Using consistent design elements such as colour, shape, and texture throughout a design to create a cohesive and unified design is an integeral principle.
Hierarchy: Organizing design elements in order of importance to guide the viewer's attention and create visual interest.
White space: The use of white space or empty space in design to create a sense of balance and focus on important elements gives our eye somewhere to rest and ensures we focus on the important elements on the page.
Typography: Choosing appropriate fonts and typefaces to convey the message and personality of the design is really important, type has spirit and can set the tone and mood of a design.
Colour: The use of colour to create mood, convey meaning, and draw attention to important elements.
Proportion: Ensuring that design elements are appropriately sized and proportioned to create visual interest and balance.
